Character Analysis- Rudy Three (Misfits) Part 2

This wasn’t my favourite scene with Rudy Three but it was the only clip of good quality, from this we learn a lot about Rudy Three. What are brilliant are just the responses he gives to Jess about what happened to him and the other Rudy’s. There isn’t a hint of sympathy; he shows no real reaction until the DJ changes the song. When that happens Rudy Three stares at him with this expressionless face, just shows nothing at all apart from the eyes. This is great acting from Joe; he has cold eyes every time this song comes on. This is the only moment you know he is annoyed. It’s his soulless eyes that really sell this scene.

This was a brilliant episode due to great character development and acting, Rudy Three is such an interesting character and I don’t think it could have been better performed. The only issue with this is that the fact Rudy Three dies, he was so good. I wanted him to be apart at least one more episode, hopefully they could write him in somehow but I very much doubt they will. As I said I expected Jess and Rudy Three to end up together and that’s how I would have written it.
Here is my suggestion of what should have happened;

  • Rudy beats up the DJ
  • Jess asks him to stop
  • Rudy confesses his love for her
  • They plan to leave together
  • Jess asks Rudy Three to lets the other Rudy’s go
  • Rudy lets them go but keeps them contained until they leave
  • Rudy visits the lad that hurt Jess then kills him
  • Rudy and Jess leave
  • The other Rudy plead to go after them, Rudy Three is dangerous
  • Next episode- Rudy Three kill instincts starts to show and Jess gets worried, Rudy Three feel betrayed and tries to kill everyone.

I would have preferred something along the lines of this mainly because it keeps Rudy Three alive and he is the only reason I am going to continue watching the show, I am hoping for some more great character development.

This character is great example for me as it shows me good methods of character development for dramas I may write in the future. It also shows me that the actor is everything; I couldn’t imagine any other actor portraying Rudy Three.
