Pathways Part 2

Photography
Coming off a high note from textiles I was raring to get into photography, I had heard from other students that they really enjoyed photography and I considering moving course. So once we had all arrived, Carlton showed us a short guide video on what we were going to work on that day.
We were working on light painting, which is when the camera shutter is  open for a duration of time in which you use some form of light source to create an image. For us the camera was set with a 30 second timer, which is actually a long duration of time. I decided to team up with my friend Chelsea because this task seemed to be a creative and joyful experience for anyone and Chelsea & I can work professionally whilst having a laugh.
This was a fun task but on a serious note this task could be considered difficult, you have to be aware of many things such as; the amount of detail of your image, the amount of times you have to switch the light on and off & if you have a steady hand enough, you may have to repeat shoot many times.
We began by practising some simple shots by using one of ourselves as an outline and another person lighting around us also played around with a range of lights to see how they are picked up by the camera, just to get a feel of how it actually works when trying to do light painting.
My Photos
 Practise
This shot is a simple around body shot, I consider this as a practise shot seeing as when I was lighting her I didn’t get close enough to make it a perfect outline, also the camera was set up right to get her entire body.

This is a shot of us basically just playing around, practising with a yellow filtered light along with a laser pen, making swirls and spikes. Although this was a practice shot, the swirl annoys me by the fact it kind of fades out which is caused by either the light moving too quick, not being seen by the camera properly or just a weak light.
On this shot we was going to practice a sort of set of steps but Chelsea didn’t understand by what I meant so we just decided to see what the other lights are good to use.

Better Outline Shots

Now this would have been a better shot but considering that when Carlton was going around us he lit the gap between Chelsea and me which caused it to be too bright and destroying the simple outline effect we wanted. But to be fair he was using a very powerful light.

This shot is the first attempt to the next shot but the problem is that the camera wasn’t zoomed out enough however I like how I lit her up; it has a sort of pattern along the sides which I think look interesting.

This is another attempt at going around the body with a light but combined with the blue glow sticks. The extra lines around was caused by over people attempting to do their pictures.

This is an interesting picture just by considering what has happened, we originally wanted to get an interesting picture of Chelsea killing me but we used the blue filtered light as our outline and we used the Christmas lights to be seen as the blood flowing down my mouth but for some reason unknown the light has counteracted with the camera causing to spread around everywhere.

Letters & Shapes
We then started trying to be creative by doing lettering and shapes in some way which is difficult considering you can’t see where you have lit up once you’ve done which causes the possibility to overlap yourself. However here Chelsea and I have successfully wrote out our names using lasers pens, but it is a bit difficult to see my “X” which was caused by rushing.
This shot is of our initials in a heart which was very difficult to do again with the overlapping issue but considering that I think this is a well done shaped heart and the lettering just about works.
Here are some that i thought was creatvie

Overall I think I have enjoyed this pathway the most seeing as it allowed me to think and be creative whilst have a lot of fun. I enjoyed it so much that I could consider doing at a pathway; another reason for this is because it could be a good opportunity to learn more about lighting and positioning during a shoot.
