I have mixed feelings on how today went; it had both its good and
bad points. Previously I had two tasks to work on; producing two scripts, one
for my assignment and one for Aarons. I only was able to complete Aaron’s
script which wasn’t a big deal but it meant I would have to spend the majority
of the day working on my assignment and leave Aaron to it. However I didn’t
want Aaron to feel like I was ditching his group and leaving him to do all the
work, also I wanted to know what feedback he had on the script I had wrote for
him.
So I decided that I would work on the script in the morning with
Aaron then focus on my project all afternoon. I was nervous to hear what criticism
there was but as it turned out I only had some minor spelling mistakes and just
need to explain what the purpose of certain aspects was in the script. Aaron
and I both imagine out what we are reading but imagine different things to
different words, for example I put;
“Doreen turns her head in
shock, gasps then smiles. She reaches out to him and holds his hand.”
Whilst I was writing I
imagined a smooth head turn from Doreen but Aaron and other members of the
course imagined she was doing an over the top screech as if she was in a horror
film. So we changed it from that to;
“Doreen jumps up in her bed,
gasps and then smiles. She reaches out to him and holds his hand.”
Apparently this is more clear on what Doreen is meant to do but to
be honest I get the image that she is literally jumping out of the bed, like a
cat ready for a fight. But we all know what we mean by both of these
descriptions, its more up to Aaron to explain this to the actors/actress seeing
as he is the director.
Unfortunately we had to leave the area because Jamie was showing
around some high school kids so we spent some time waiting for them to be done.
I went for a short break and when I came back I found out that Aaron had been
roped into showing the students some camerawork so now we had to wait until
after dinner to finish up the script.
I was getting a bit annoyed because I had planned to work on my
assignment for the afternoon but now would have to use the afternoon to finish
the script off. Fortunately Lewis didn’t mind and decided to go work on finding
possible locations for ours. In the afternoon we started to proper debate
certain aspects of the script, mainly the character “Mick”. Aaron desperately
wanted to make him freakier but I had to argue that what I had wrote was enough
to get that across, he was really just throwing in freaky stuff for the sake of
freaky stuff. He also tried doing this
with drama, at one stage he tried to push for the character “Doreen” to die at
the end but I again told him he was throwing drama in for the sake of drama.
During the day I asked Jamie if he could read my script mainly so I could get more of
an adult and professional feedback, what I wanted feedback on was mainly the
structure of the script and the creativity of the story .Jamie was busy so we had to wait for a while until he could view
it. Eventually he came and looked through the script and only had one comment
which was I had to have the character description on the first page so that the
actors are aware of who their characters are. But apart from that he said it
was brilliant and to be honest, hearing this really made me happy, gave me a
bit more confidence.
We ended the day by discussing possible titles for the project but
we couldn’t come up with anything, we are going to think over the weekend. I
have put it on myself to write out the character description over the weekend
so that the script aspect of pre-production is complete giving me more time to
focus on my project. Even though I got some good feedback today I feel like I
have let down Lewis and have been unproductive on my project so once I have
finished on the character development for Aaron’s, I am going to spend the
weekend working on our project.
