Wednesday 17th October- Child Action

Now today was a very exciting day to say the least, earlier in the week we were told we could either participate in a band session today or go to a location where we would be having a production meeting with a group of people where we would talk about making a promo or some form of product for Child Action Northwest. Obviously I choose to go to the production meeting, I thought I was going to get involved in the band session on Monday which I didn’t but that didn’t bother me. I was unsure what was to be expected from us or even from the people we were meeting but I had watched other members of the media group (Adam Hay, Emily McGregor, Lewis Johnson, Sammie Scott) working on their own piece to show at the meeting which was about Emily’s own life as a young carer.
Once we had all arrived and settled we began the production meeting. We were introduced to a woman called Harriet who told us the basics of who everyone was and why they choose the orphanage, then they gave a brief history on the orphanage, the founder (James Dixon), and some of the orphans themselves. The way they explained James showed he was a great man who loved to help people wherever he could and however he could. Once she informed us about everything she briefly mentioned what was to be expected, something for both art and media. The art department were to be involved in a book project were they can work on cover, title, marketing etc. Whereas the media was simply told that we have to plan and make 10 shorts, whether that is documentaries, short films or even both I am unsure. When I heard this, I then thought about everything we had been told about the history. I had a couple of ideas of what to produce; possible a re-enactment to one of the first orphans, there was a couple of before and after pictures of the orphans which led me to think of something like this, as I believe we want the products to be uplifting. So we could show the kids rough upbringing, been brought into the orphanage and how much it changes them, in appearance and behaviour.
We were then given a tour around the orphanage, shown bits of everything. A lot of the stuff I found most fascinating was the books and files with all the original signatures of the first orphans, it showed history and showed that there could be a story behind each of these orphans. Also there was archive footage on display of the orphans playing and some of the adults involved running the orphanage.
Below are some images I took whilst there

We finished off by talking to a woman who works in carer help and she wanted us to have a better understanding of what a young carer is and what it is like to be one of them, also what we are to make will help people be aware and benefit them. I am unsure when we will be beginning pre-production but I can’t wait to get involved as long as it doesn’t cause me to fall behind on anymore work.
