Monday 15th October- Finally Finishing Documentaries

Today was a difficult day considering I had to swap between activities; working on my documentary and working on the band session. We arrived at the right time but were told the band wouldn’t be in until later that day so Becky and I thought it would be more productive to spend our time cleaning up our documentaries. As I mentioned in my last blog, Aaron showed us how to adjust the colouring on each shot to however we see fit, for example we wanted the interview to seem warmer. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get much hand on with the editing considering that I needed to help get the band equipment out of the van and into the studio and also have some input on the crew list. There were a lot of students that wasn’t on BTEC last year and I wasn’t sure if they all knew what they had to do or how to even start with a crew list.  I was wrong to think so as they had planned it all out well into three groups. I wasn’t really bothered on which area I would be assigned to; I have worked on many sessions in the studio and have tried the majority of all areas. The position I would have most preferred would have been on one of the cameras seeing as its more hands on and it just keeps me involved with camera work.
Adjusting the colour can be difficult depending on which tool you use and are more comfortable with, we were shown the three way colour corrector & RGB tone filter. I found it easier to use the three way colour corrector as it focused on the imagery more than the colour. As I mentioned we wanted the farmer interview to be warmer which we achieved by using the colour corrector.

Once we completed this Becky noted that it would be better and make our product look more professional if we edited every shot so that they look more appealing especially the son’s interview as it doesn’t mix with the farmer interview in colour and positioning.

Once we had finished with that we briefly talked about how to structure the confession sequence but didn’t get any final idea at that stage.  We started editing the colour for them seeing as the majority of them were blue, positioned wrong or just needed editing. Unfortunately I didn’t get involved with the band session apart from helping the band with their equipment however it doesn’t concern me too much as I have been involved in  many band sessions and I had a good time editing, learning new things such as Three way colour to make my work more professional. Hopefully we’ll be at a finishing point with the confessions tomorrow and will be able to start other projects.
